A total of 40,906 people have received the vaccine-producing vaccine, according to a statement from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Of those who tested positive, nearly 17,000 were vaccinated in the past 24 hours, and 7,858 were vaccinated within the past six months, the statement said.
The vaccine has been tested in 1,600 people and received a positive result in another 1,846, according the statement.
The most recent results are based on results taken at the start of the study.
More than 400,000 doses of the vaccine have been produced, and all are currently available for people to receive, the announcement said.
The new vaccine, developed by the San Diego-based vaccine company Sanofi Pasteur, has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization.
It has a half-life of six months and has been shown to be effective in reducing the incidence of the virus.
