Recode is reporting that Snapchat, a social media giant that has grown increasingly popular in recent years, has overtaken Facebook as the No. 1 mobile video app, with more than 40 million daily active users.
In the first quarter of 2019, Snapchat surpassed YouTube and Twitter as the top video app on iOS, Android, and Windows devices, according to the report.
Snapchat’s daily active user count increased by 2.5% to 1.27 billion users in the first three months of 2019.
In terms of monthly active users, Snapchat was up by 11% to 605 million in the second quarter of 2018, according, according.
Snapchat also overtook Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr as the second most popular social video app in the U.S. last year.
“Snapchat is now the #1 mobile video platform, surpassing Facebook and YouTube, in the United States,” Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel wrote on the company’s blog.
“We are excited to see how the growth in this segment continues.”
The company also said that its Instagram video app has grown from a small video app to more than 4 million users since it launched in October.
Snapchat has grown its user base in the past two years, and has recently added video-chatting capabilities to its app.
Snapchat will be available on Android, iOS, and the web in the coming months.
Instagram has also recently added a video-sharing feature to its apps.
